Our Founding Story

Innovatus Law was established in 2014 by Derek T.C. Sun (Managing Partner), Chia-heng Seetoo (Senior Counsel), Jamie J. Yang (Partner), and Marine Yang (Partner).

We identified a gap in Taiwan’s legal market: foreign companies doing business in Taiwan struggled to find legal representation that combined local expertise with international standards. Few global law firms maintain Taiwan offices with full capacity to practice local law, while many local firms lack the cross-border experience and English fluency needed for sophisticated international clients.

Our founding team—all graduates of top law schools in Taiwan and the United States, with decades of experience at renowned international firms—came together to provide a third option: a Taiwan-based firm with international capabilities, offering BigLaw quality at boutique efficiency and pricing.

The name “Innovatus” reflects our mission: innovation (創新) and pioneering new paths (開拓). Ten years later, that mission continues to guide our practice.
